35 years ago, San Pedro was a sleeping fishing village, with packed sand roads, and only a hand-pulled “raft” (ferry) to cross the San Pedro River to access north of San Pedro Town.  It wasn’t until 2010 that the Mata Grande Road was built to connect the east and west coasts of Ambergris Caye for the very first time!  Until then, there was no road access to the west coast of Ambergris Caye!!  And thus, “Secret Beach” was born, and the highly desirable west coast of Ambergris Caye became discovered.

 

The west coast of Ambergris Caye has exploded in popularity and desirability due in large part to its gin-clear turquoise waters, clear sandy bottom, and the absence of both sea grass and sargassum.  Add to that the popularity of Caribbean sunset views – which trump sunrise views any day of the week – and it’s no wonder the west coast of Ambergris Caye has the fastest growth in property appreciation anywhere in Belize!
